The first time AMD’s FX-8150 processor found itself in the Guinness World Records, it took a team of AMD sponsored overclockers (and a whole lot of liquid helium) working together to push the processor to 8429.38GHz. And this time? Andre Yang, working by himself, used the same model chip to break the record set in September and set a new one,…

Mum’s been the word from the Jolicloud camp over the past few months — summer vacation, we get it — but the company has apparently been working quite diligently on what’s next: the “new Jolicloud platform.” According to a mildly vague blog post from the outfit, the next edition of the OS will introduce “the personal cloud,” enabling users to access the information stored there from “your iPhone, your Android phone, your tablet, your computer and pretty much any connected device with its API.” In related news, Joli OS has been open sourced and is now available to the community, and if you’re interested in finding out more about the whole ordeal, sign up for the private beta in the source links below. Invites are going out soon, or so we’re told.

‘You’ve heard the Lone Ranger’s story; you just haven’t heard it told from this guy,’ Gore Verbinski tells MTV News.

Now that Disney, Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp have ironed out most of the budget kinks surrounding their production of “The Lone Ranger,” we can all rest easy that the masked man and his trusty sidekick Tonto are headed to the big screen soon.
When MTV News caught up with Verbinski at the Hollywood Awards Gala Monday night, where his quirky animated film “Rango” received the Hollywood Animation Award, we asked how he was feeling about the film and what his plans are for the adaptation.
“I feel great. We’re not shooting a Western in the middle of winter; the whole thing is pushed into a more reasonable time of year, so now we have to go make the movie,” Verbinski said, speaking to the film’s new May 31, 2013, release date. “There’s been a lot of talk. Hopefully in a year and a half we’ll have something we can talk about.”
Verbinski went on to say that he’s been hard at work on the screenplay for two years and that the central character is not the Ranger.
“It’s all built around Tonto,” he said. “You’ve heard the Lone Ranger’s story; you just haven’t heard it told from this guy, and he was there.”
Depp has already teased that their take on the beloved duo’s Western adventures will be “interesting,” to say the least.
“I like the character. I think I have interesting plans for the character, and I think the film itself could be entertaining and very funny,” he said. “But also I like the idea of having the opportunity to make fun of the idea of the Indian as a sidekick — which has always been [the case] throughout the history of Hollywood. The Native American has always been a second-class, third-class, fourth-class, fifth-class citizen, and I don’t see Tonto that way at all. So it’s an opportunity for me to salute Native Americans.”

Happy first birthday, Windows Phone 7! One year on, and the fledgling mobile operating system has 36,000 active developers in its AppHub community, 1.5 million downloads of its Developer Tools, and 11,500 apps in its Marketplace.
Microsoft is quick to take a couple shots at competitors’ app stores, beating its chest about not re-counting tanslations of an app or “lite” apps, “increasing tonnage” by supporting apps from other mobile platforms, and not listing wallpapers as a category.
That’s all fine and dandy, but we spend a lot of time sifting through WP7 app feeds — and we’re still not seeing a lot of awesome apps on the platform. We think a few marquee apps would’ve made a pretty nice first birthday present — along with a much smoother update process for WP7 users.

In tough economic times, more and more people are turning away from contracted home repair in favor of do-it-yourself home repair. This can be a cheap and rewarding solution when done right that is more customized to suit your needs. Unfortunately, many individuals are unprepared for the potential pitfalls that may arise as a result and can make a relatively simple solution into a difficult and quite problematic one. It doesn’t have to be hard though, if you are prepared in advance and follow this step-by-step breakdown.
Research
Before you get started you need to sit down and research the project you are going to tackle. Find out all the equipment you will need to do the job right. How skillful is the task at hand – is it relatively easy or complex? Consider how much manpower will be required for you to complete the job and whether or not you can gather that many workers. Consider the time that it will take to complete the project – be realistic about this and decide whether you have that much time to commit. What are the materials you will need to get the job done and how readily available are these to come by? Finally, you need to consider the cost of the entire project. Can you realistically afford to do it after you have factored in all the other considerations? Are you really saving that much as opposed to hiring a skilled contractor?
Plan It Out
You need to create a realistic and efficient timeline for your entire project. This means a macro timeline for the entire project and micro timelines for each individual step. How long will each step take and if one step is held back will you be able to work on another step? There is no point in delaying your entire project if one step gets held back; be efficient and work on something else. This will ultimately save you time and money.
Safety
Always consider safety before you start anything. This is the most important factor and, if missed, can cost you more money and possibly your health. Make sure you have the proper safety gear and the proper training to handle any equipment. Depending on your project it may also be vital to consider the locations of local electric, water or gas lines. Consult your local provider for detailed information on these locations.
Do It
Actually getting started on the project can be a difficult step for a lot of people. Many get caught up in procrastination techniques and never get around to it. To avoid this, you need to just start. Starting is the hardest part – the ‘follow through’ is easy. If you get stuck on something don’t be afraid to ask someone for help and remember to start off small. Complete your project one step at a time.
Common Mistakes
There are many mistakes amateur ‘do-it-yourselfers’ run into. Some of these include buying similar parts instead of the correct ones (many plumbing projects fall here) and taking shortcuts. Shortcuts are, by far, the worst mistake you can make. Sometime a task will seem too difficult and people will take a shortcut to make it easier to accomplish. This rarely goes well and often comes back to bite you in a very costly way. Avoid shortcuts. There is only one way to do a project and that is the right way. If you follow this advice you will have you project done to complete satisfaction in no time. Just take it one step at a time and follow through.
Good luck and have fun.
